Nancy Hartling, receipient of the Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case
In 1979, on the 50th anniversary of the Privy Council's historic decision, the Government of Canada instituted the Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case to recognize outstanding contributions to advance equality for women in Canada. Recipients of these Awards continue the tradition of courage, integrity and hard work which the Famous Five of the Persons Case inspired. Their effectiveness and courage has advanced the cause of equality for girls and women in significant and substantial ways that have enriched their communities.

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the Governor General’s Awards in commemoration of the Persons Case to six laureates during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

Nancy Hartling, of Riverview, New Brunswick, is a passionate advocate for women, focusing on domestic violence and poverty.

In 1929, five women from Alberta won the judiciary battle to be recognized as persons, therefore making them eligible for appointment to the Senate.

Dragonflys
Club Richelieu generously donated $500.00 to Support to Single Parents Inc so that Madeleine Raiche, a local artist, could create a series of 4 panels paintings entitled "Dragonflys". These dragonflys signify "hope and good times to come". The paintings were hung at the agency on Feb. 14, 2009 by the artist who stated "I wanted to create a piece of work that would have an impact on the single parents and their children so that they may have hope and that after transitions there are good times that will follow".
